Fort McMurray jet ski racer Mike Klippenstein has been named as an inductee to the Wood Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.
Bob
Campbell, a director with the Wood Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame, said Klippenstein's achievements made him an obvious choice
for induction.
"How many world champions are their living in Fort McMurray? In his particular endeavour, he's the best
there is in the world," Campbell said.
Klippenstein lists a formidable collection of World and Canadian Champion titles
on his personal website, www.klipperracing.com, and his undeniable passion for the sport extends to his home life -- his wife
Carla is an accomplished racer in her own right.
Klippenstein told Today earlier this month that he hasn't lost a race
in years, and keeps active in local and national racing circuits along with international events.
Klippenstein said
he plans to compete in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. from Oct. 4 to 12 followed by a trip to Thailand for the King's Cup Jet Ski
World Championships to fight for a $100,000 purse at White Sand Beach Dec. 2 to 7 for two major events left on his calendar.
"While
the sport is not a well-known sport and not a huge spectator sport, at least in this part of the country, his accomplishments
have been recognized by a world association," Campbell said.
"Thats still a recognizable accomplishment for sure."
